What to know before installing.
Does FreeScribe record audio or video?
No. The extension works with accessible captions displayed on the meeting page.
Do I need to invite a bot to the call?
No. FreeScribe runs in your Chrome browser and does not appear as a participant.
Where are transcripts stored?
In your Chrome profile's local storage, inside an encrypted vault. FreeScribe does not operate a server that receives your meetings.
Does it capture meeting chat?
Only accessible Google Meet chat. On Microsoft Teams and Zoom web, FreeScribe captures accessible captions.
Are exported files still encrypted?
No. TXT, Markdown, and JSON exports are downloaded as unencrypted local files. You decide where to store and how to protect each file.
